Global Competitiveness of the BC Forest Sector Symposium - January 27, 2005
Synopsis - On January 27, 2005 the BC Forum Symposium convened forest sector leaders to discuss and plan the future of the BC forest sector. Scheduled for half a day in downtown Vancouver, it served as an invaluable opportunity for decision makers and stakeholders of the BC forest sector to understand changing market dynamics and influence decisions on future research that can assist our province in remaining globally competitive against a backdrop of worldwide sectoral changes.

Value Focused Forestry in British Columbia Symposium - March 01, 2006
Synopsis - On March 01, 2006, the BC Forum & FPAC Symposium "Value Focused Forestry" gathered stakeholders to discuss and plan the future of BC's "value focused forest sector". The Symposium explored the possibility of a new paradigm in BC that shifts from a focus on volume-based production orientation to one that seeks to maximize the value obtained from our forests. The theme of the symposium was designed around alternative production strategies that could serve to augment an already strong commodity manufacturing sector.

Forestry Tenure and Land Management in British Columbia Symposium - November 01, 2006
Synopsis - On November 01, 2006, the BC Forum Symposium on Land Tenure & Forest Management discussed options for reforming the forest licensing system in British Columbia. The Symposium examined the position of the current forest tenure systems within the economic framework of British Columbia and explored alternative models from around the world. The purpose of the Symposium was to obtain feedback and measure support from the public and stakeholders for ideas for changing the tenure system as well as to determine the research questions and information required to make progress on this contentious issue.

Forest Sector Competitiveness and Renewal Symposium – June 20, 2007
Synopsis - On June 20th 2007, the BC Forum and the Forest Products Association of Canada co-hosted a discussion on the future competitiveness of the Canadian and BC forest sector and our potential for renewal. The symposium focused on two themes: Lessons from Abroad – National and International Experiences in Competitive Renewal and New Opportunities for Canada – Products, Markets, Technology and Innovation. The symposium explored what opportunities exist in new products and markets and discussed expanding the potential of value-added wood manufacturing in Canada. Invited speakers commented on the current state of technology and innovation in Canada and BC, with specific focus on how we can prepare to take advantage of opportunities in emerging areas such as bioenergy.
